YOU are now officially part of the movement I’ve started, and YOU are going to make a huge positive difference in the world beginning today! I’ll lay out YOUR role for the “Provide HOPE Movement” later in this article and please rest assured that you are capable of fulfilling it, it’s relatively easy, and you will forever be able to know that you were part of it from the beginning. Together, WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE WORLD! First, I need to explain the “WHY.”
I came upon some data in a recent article that immediately caught my attention. When I read it, I bypassed all of the good, healthy emotions and went right to frustration. My frustration was rooted in the fact that what the data revealed doesn’t have to be. In fact, a minor shift in perspective could reverse the trend line direction and provide a permanent solution. And you can be a part of the solution. Yes…THAT’S something you can get excited about!
The data I was looking at was linked to “the American Dream” with wording that asked people if they believed the proposition that “anyone who works hard can get ahead, regardless of their background.” In 2012, 53% of respondents said yes. In 2023, only 36% of respondents said yes. That means 64% of all Americans have given up having ANY HOPE of a better life, a brighter future, and the pursuit of happiness. Their spirit has been broken. Thus, my frustration and my desire to do something about it.
The sad news continues. One out of every TWO Americans responded that they felt “Life in America is WORSE than it was 50 years ago.” Are you kidding me? Think of all the things Americans didn’t have 50 years ago that we all take for granted today. Internet, massively improved medical care, vehicles with power locks, power windows, air-conditioning, gps, Bluetooth, quality audio…ALL standard equipment today. 50 years ago…hard-wired phones (no car phones, no cell phones), no internet, no computers in any homes. Albums, cassette tapes, and 8-track tapes ruled the music industry. Air-conditioning in a home was only for the extreme wealthy. 3 network channels and 1 PBS channel. Streaming meant canoeing. I could go on and on.
While we all live like Royalty today compared to the people 50 years ago, half of you think life is WORSE? Why? Because of a flawed use of the perspective gene that we all have access to. Might also be because of the current peer group you’re hanging out with and listening to. It’s like listening to music that’s being played off key. It’s agitating. Yet listening to music that gets you juiced on what your life can be with a little effort? Now that’s the stuff that lets you dance your life into the lead on Dancing with the Stars…because now you have HOPE and a steady diet of ENCOURAGEMENT! Constantly listening to a positive perspective sets YOU up to help others do the same. And quite quickly, the positive side of the street becomes contagious.
So, what to do? I’LL tell you what to do! Jump on the “Provide Hope Movement” bandwagon! How? Every day moving forward you’re going to bring Hope and Encouragement to the forefront of your conscious mind in everything you do, everything you say, and everything you post on the internet. Every interaction you have with another human provides an opportunity to give their day a boost somehow, someway.
If…no, strike that….WHEN you’re looking, you’re going to become more aware of the telltale signs that a person has hope permanently parked on the negative side of the lot. That’s when you take action and make them aware that a spot right up front on the positive side just became available. It’s an opportunity to show them that YOU still believe in the American Dream. That you still believe that opportunity exists in everything and everywhere. You’ll come to understand that all it takes is a simple shift of perspective. All you have to do is share that perspective.
Data says that half of our current society believes that the economic and political systems are “stacked against people like me” but don’t you buy into a single penny of it. Instead, figure out how to make the systems work in your favor. That’s right. Understand the rules, play by the rules, and play to win using the rules to support your efforts. Seek like-minded people that accept that they have more control of their destiny right now than anyone has ever had before. Just consider the opportunities Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to offer each of us. AI is just another way to spell HOPE!
