AI is already here and it can’t be stopped!

Paul White's nationally distributed syndicated column, It’s already here and it can’t be stopped! is published in 22 publications across seven states. This includes the following newspapers and digital publications: Midland Daily News (MI), SFGate (CA), Seattle PI (WA), Connecticut Post (CT), Laredo Morning Times (TX), Huron Daily Tribune (MI), The Telegraph (IL), and more. In this week's article, Paul shares his experience with artificial intelligence (AI) and how this new technology will impact everyday life.

Every article I write is intended to offer you a new perspective, explain “why” a new perspective can benefit your life, and inspire you to take action to institute positive change in your life and the impact your life has on others.

Today is different, because I’m writing about something relatively new that 99% of the general population is unaware of. Even if they’ve heard of it, they can’t tell you what it is nor how it works.

While the subject is AI, which stands for Artificial Intelligence, it’s the impact AI is about to have on every person’s life, from this day forward, that I want to offer perspective on.

I want to make you Aware, acknowledge that you’ll be Amazed and Afraid at the same time, discuss ways to Accept the change, and Assimilate the change successfully into your life, both now and in the future.

You’re going to hear the terms “AI chatbot” and “GPT” (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) more and more. All of us will be asking a chatbot to do the work we previously did ourselves.

For example, on an account I opened at chatai.com I simply typed in: explain how an AI chatbot works, and in less than 6 seconds it responded with: Sure thing! An AI chatbot is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence algorithms to simulate conversations with human users through text or voice message exchanges.

Here's how it works at a high level: 1. Input: The chatbot receives a message, called an input, from a user. 2. Processing: The chatbot uses natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to interpret the input and extract meaning from it, similar to how humans understand language. 3. Determining Intent: The chatbot then identifies the user's intent or purpose behind the input, such as providing information or requesting assistance. 4. Generating Response: Based on its understanding of the input and intent, the chatbot generates a response using pre-built templates or by dynamically generating text using machine learning algorithms. 5. Output: The chatbot sends the response back to the user, continuing the conversation until the user's needs are met or the interaction is completed.

Overall, AI chatbots allow for more personalized and efficient interactions between humans and machines, improving the user experience and allowing for more streamlined communication in various industries.

Next, I typed in: write 3 positive sentences on how AI will improve my life.

In less than 4 seconds it responded with: Sure! Here are three positive sentences about how AI will improve your life: 1. AI-powered personal assistants can help you save time and increase productivity by handling routine tasks, scheduling appointments, and performing other tasks that you may have trouble keeping up with on your own. 2. AI-powered healthcare solutions will help doctors diagnose health problems earlier, leading to more effective treatments and a higher quality of care for patients. 3. AI-powered transportation systems can reduce traffic congestion, emissions, and accidents by providing real-time monitoring and optimization of traffic flows, parking, and public transportation.

Now that you’re AWARE, I can fess up (there’s going to be a lot of fessing up in all of our futures). Normally, it would have taken me hours and hours to come up with something even close to what the chatbot provided in less than 10 seconds for the two requests I gave it.

AMAZED? You should be!

AFRAID? Maybe. Think about being a teacher who hands out an assignment and several students have it completed less than a minute later. Or a business leader that needs to give a speech on a subject they know nothing about and delivers it to accolades of being a foremost expert on the subject. But what if it helps every Doctor deliver an accurate diagnosis in a fraction of the time it currently takes? No need to be afraid of that!

It provided me beautifully written responses to: write about a 900 word count paper on Vincent Van Go (intentionally misspelled his last name…didn’t matter. It delivered an A+ paper in 13 seconds); why are diamonds used for an engagement ring (7 seconds); what are some answers to global warming (9 seconds); what’s the best way for a politician to get elected (11 seconds). I could continue forever. I wanted to test the chatbot’s sense of humor so I asked it: why am i the smartest person in my family and within 5 seconds it gave me a completely neutral and boring response beginning with the statement: As an AI assistant, I do not have any personal or familial knowledge about you or your family. I gave it a second chance and asked for a really funny joke to which it responded: Here's a classic joke: Why did the tomato turn red? Because it saw the salad dressing!

It's imperative that we all ACCEPT the evolving ways AI will impact every facet of our life. It’s about to hit us like a tsunami. Can it be stopped? Consider that Microsoft just purchased around 50 percent of ChatGPT spending $10 Billion to gain traction in the AI competition with Google, Apple, and others. It’s full speed ahead for tech companies which is why we need to accept, and then ASSIMILATE, how this technology can best serve the greater good of humanity. How about we direct this robotic intelligence to stop and prevent wars, discrimination, hate, evil, scams, and choices we all make that harm us and others? Let’s not wait. Let’s begin while this new technology is in its infancy.

The time is NOW for each of us to utilize this new life tool for the greater good of this incredible planet we share. GiddyUp!
